Hall and Oates Concert 2005

My brother and I went to the PNC Arts Center in the summer of 2005 to see Hall and Oates for the first time. We have both been fans of theirs since the early 1980s. Tears For Fears was not there which was disappointing because I like them too. That is kind of a strange pairing. I'm thinking that TFF would go better with The Pet Shop Boys - that's a concert I'd go to see. Todd Rundgren was there instead. I was only familiar with 2 of his songs. Mark and I weren't really into his part of the show and were kind of disappointed when he came out and performed with Hall and Oates during the 3 songs of the encore. Other than that it was a very good concert. We did wish that they had done Out of Touch but they can't do everything, I suppose. It would be nice if we could go to their concert there this summer but it's not really in the budget. Technically it could be if we cut out one day at the US Open which we hopefully will be going to for 3 days. The concert tickets went on sale Saturday. Maybe they are already sold out anyway.

Hi, LaraAnn -

I'm glad you enjoyed the concert. I recently saw Hall and Oates on some TV special, and while I love their stuff from the '80s, I do have to say that there comes a time when certain performers should stop performing.

It sounds like they were good at the concert you went to, but I was so disappointed and almost embarrassed to watch them on the special that I saw.

It's hard, because you know that these guys love what they do, and it's not like they're going to come back and put out a new album or anything now, but - and this is true with a lot of singers / bands from the '70s and '80s - they need to know that they aren't doing themselves any favors by still "trying" to perform.

I don't know if you saw The Who at the 2010 Superbowl half-time performance, but that was excruciatingly terrible - and that was the general public's reaction, not just mine.

There are those like Elton John, Billy Joel, The Stones, etc. who are still fantastic performers and entertainers, but not everyone has the same abilities at 60 that they did at 25.

Darryll -Were they really that bad? Maybe it is better that we don't waste our money on those tickets then. I totally agree with you that certain music artists should just give it up with the touring and live performances by a certain time. I never did go to concerts until 2000 so I missed out on seeing my favourites when they were at the height of their popularity, like Duran Duran who I did eventually see in 2005. They were okay but I couldn't help but wish that I could go back to 1984 and see them then. I didn't see that halftime Who performance - so most people did think that it was awful. They are definitely past their expiration date on live performances. Thanks for reading and commenting on my post. I enjoyed chatting with you about this subject.

Wow, jealous! I would love to see Hall & Oates! I do agree with Blast from the Past that they've lost their touch in recent years...they performed Maneater on Dancing With the Stars a year or two ago and I thought the beat was off and their singing was not so strong anymore. But I would still see them today if I had the chance.

Pam - I hope that you do get to see them someday. There was an article about them in our paper today and part of me wishes that I could see them again despite them not sounding as good as they used to. Their concert is this week. If I hadn't spent so much money on fashion jewelry on ebay last month I probably could have afforded to do so.
