Hurricane Irene Might Spoil Our US Open Plans

Here are some photos of the grounds of the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens, N.Y. from last year when the weather was very hot but no rain except for a little showers for about 25 minutes or so one day out of the 6 that we were there. Well, it looks like things might not go so smoothly for us this year because of the Hurricane that is due to hit this area Saturday into Sunday. Sure, the rain will end by Sunday night, but there's always the worries of floods, power outages, delays or cancellations of trains and other factors that could spoil things for Monday especially. It might be okay by Tuesday but I'm hearing some doom and gloom reports on the news. We have to take the train and subway to get out there, no way could I do any city driving. Very scary and stressful, esp in those areas that we'd have to take to get there. I'm just praying that things work out alright but I'm not very hopeful.

I feel bad that I have not responded to comments on my posts lately. I've had very limited computer time and I've also been catching up on tasks, projects and other chores. I promise that I will do so and also read and comment on posts of my friends here in the blog world as soon as I can. Next week is going to be a very busy one with us being away most of the day for the tennis event so it won't be for another 10 days. I'll miss being in touch with you all and I'll send out my thanks for everyone who has been reading my posts.

Hey LaraAnn,

I know you won't be online for a while but I just wanted to thank you for the heartfelt comment on my blog. I was feeling kind of irritated and not-so-positive this morning until I read that. I'm so happy to hear that you're finding the books I recommended helpful. I actually want to reread them at some point to help reinforce my staying positive. And I'm psyched to hear you like American Pickers! I can only watch episodes online since I don't have The History Channel.

Well, I hope all goes well tomorrow despite the hurricane and that you get to enjoy the U.S. Open. Looking forward to hearing all about it when you get back. Have a great weekend!

First of all, I hope you and your family are safe Lara. I heard New Jersey was getting some pretty bad weather. Stay safe my friend. It's such a bummer that your much anticipated trip has to come just when there's a major hurricane! Oh man. Fingers crossed that all goes well and that your trip is a success and lots of fun. Keep safe and let us know how you are (if you can). I agree with Pam's comment, your kind spirit always lifts me up too. Love reading your posts and now can't wait for your tennis trip update.

Hope Pam is safe at her neck of the woods too. So many of my blog friends are on the hurricane's path! :(

Take care and talk to you soon. xo

Hope the weather doesn't wreak to much havoc in N.J. Take it easy and enjoy your leisure time!

Hi, Pam-
I am so glad that I was able to cheer you up on that day. Some days it's just so hard to be in a positive frame of mind. You always manage to brighten up my day so it's nice to know that I was able to do the same for you. I hope that you are doing well now. I have so much to catch up on at your blog. It might take me a while to do so for all my blog friends but I will make this a priority even over my US Open photo project.

I was looking forward to last night's Pickers episode but unfortunately I fell asleep during it since I had been busy all day. Luckily I had set the tape up so I can catch it later. It's good that you are able to see it online. I wouldn't be suprised if our cable company eventually makes that channel part of a seperate package like they have with others. The bill is high enough already.

Have a great day. Take care.
Lara

Chelly and Darrin - Thanks for your concern - things could have been much worse in our town like it was for many others in Jersey where there was lots of flooding. Some apartments here did get basement flooding, but we lucked out. The 4 day power outage just on our block did really suck though.

Chelly - I'm happy to hear that my posts cheer you up also. I always look forward to reading yours as well. It's nice to be able to share my childhood memories and more with you and my other blog friends.
