Magazines and Papers
Mike and I would read the Highlights magazines at the dentist’s office; Dad had such a good
dental and eye plan at GM. Aunt Ann and Uncle Joe got Mike and me a two year
subscription to Ranger Rick as a
Christmas gift.
We got the TV Guide in the 1980s but I can’t
remember for how long. I had subscriptions to Seventeen and Young Miss
for a couple of years.
Mom received Biography for 2 or 3 years. That was a
very nice mag. That was sometime in the 90s as was the Walford Gazette, the paper that I got for being in the “EastEnders”
fan club for a few years.
Dad used to buy the
Star and Enquirer. Sometimes, he and grandma would complain about the
celebrities in them, as they did when watching “Lifestyles of the Rich and
Famous”. Mike and I used to read them too.
Mike and I
delivered a local paper called the Atom Tabloid for a year or two. I think that
was in the early 80s.

Books About The 1980s
I ordered both of these books from the amazon.com site a couple of years ago. I first saw the Totally Awesome 80's one at a bookstore back in the mid 1990s and kind of regretted not getting it then. My library actually had The Best of Smash Hits and a few weeks after I took this out I decided to look into purchasing it. I never did buy that magazine back in the 1980s but I did get some issues of it from ebay shortly after getting this book. I guess that I was making up for the fact that I was never like my classmates going ga-ga over Duran Duran and other performers back then. I was too busy studying and reading to care about teen idols, MTV and all that. It's kind of embarrassing that I didn't go through my boy crazy phase until my mid 30's. I did have little crushes on Tom Selleck and the baseball player Don Mattingly but it seemed tame compared to how crazy the girls were going over guys like Rick Springfield and all those other idols that were in Tiger Beat and those other teenie-bopper mags.

Chocolate Delight
I was looking in my mom's keepsake totes a few days ago and found alot of interesting things. In one, there is mostly magazine and newspaper articles about JFK, mainly his death, and also a few books like his Profiles In Courage. I looked through some of the mags and was enjoying seeing the old ads and when I saw this page with chocolate recipes on it I just had to take a picture of it. This is from a Photoplay mag - 1963. Seeing it makes me crave a mocha frappuccino right now but I have to control myself, I can only have 3 of those per week. I do allow myself a little bit of dark chocolate candy every day at lunch though.

Scrapbook Stuff 2

These past 2 days I have been going through my scrapbooks and getting rid of things in them and it's not because my brother says that I have way too much stuff. I just don't feel the need to keep some of it anymore. I will not toss out any of the 8x10 or 4x6 photos like the b&w one of Jon Bon Jovi in this post. I used to cut out articles from the newspapers and magazines like the TV Guide, People and Entertainment Weekly. I also would spend lots of money on ink for the printer and print out photos of the stars that I like. I did alot of Duran Duran photos that way. Well, as of last night a majority of the DD stuff is in the recycle bag. I am not sure if I will be doing the same to my Bon Jovi scrapbook yet or not. Will I be regretting this purging of possesions like I have in the past? I hope not, but I don't think that I will this time. I am no longer that into any of these stars and shows. I have so many scrapbooks. Today I did the Buffy the Vampire Slayer one. I can't believe how much I was into that show. I even named my dog after the main character with the middle name of another one - Willow. I will not be tossing out any of the items from my doggies and other animals scrapbooks - they are too cute to part with. Animals have much more significance to me than famous people anyhow.

Men's Hairstyles

My mom used to have a subscription to Biography magazine for a few years. It was a nice magazine and I really enjoyed reading it. I did keep a few of the issues and took out some of the articles in others for our scrapbooks. Our cable company didn't include Biography channel in the package and we couldn't afford the extra expense. This was disappointing because they moved most of the good shows like Biography and my British mysteries from A&E over to there. Well, they finally included it on the package but now there aren't that many good things on there. And naturally they are raising our bill next month. It figures.

Muppet Magazine

This issue is from 1983. I have all of 1984 and 1985 and just some of 1986 - 1988. I was trying to sell them at flea markets a few times but I am glad that no one bought them or maybe they did buy some and I just don't remember. I am afraid that I'll mess them up if I take them out of the plastic. I should get over that because I'd like to look through them which I have not done since the 80's.
