Regis and Kathie Lee – 1980s

The first time that we went to this show Ann Abernathy was the co-host. It was called The “Morning Show “and was 90 minutes long then.  Regis was not there that day though; Ira Joe Fisher was filling in for him. There was a cooking segment, some sort of chocolate dessert. I really hadn’t remembered who the guests were; Mike told me that Gary Coleman was one of them. Dad was with the 3 of us as he was for the next time that we went.

   I don’t even remember any of the guests from the 2nd time, one might have been a girl from the US Olympic luge team or perhaps that was the first. Mike might know for sure so maybe I’ll ask him sometime soon.

   We stood outside the “All My Children” studios which were across the street for a little while afterwards. We saw some of its stars – the 2 who played Myra and Sloane, Julia Barr, Michael E. Knight who I had a little crush on and Peter Bergman who jogged right past us. Mike saw the actor who played Travis getting into his limo and actually went up to him and got his autograph.

   We both got Regis and Kathie Lee’s autographs. Dad talked me into doing so and he also took a picture of Regis and I together which was embarrassing. We did get Ira Joe’s and Ann’s autographs previously too.

   The third time Kathy and Helen came with the 3 of us. Mike told me that Dom DeLouise was the guest and that Kathy had said that she wished that it had been his son Peter that was there instead. She was a 21 Jump Street fan and might’ve had a crush on him.

   I have this vivid memory of the producer Gelman making us move over 1 seat. Before that I had been in the one that had the number of the winner of the contest prize winner on it. I was pretty mad about this. I think that the prize was dinner for 2 at a nice restaurant.

   We walked all the way back to Penn Station – that’s like 32 blocks. It was kind of cold out that day. I’m pretty sure that I had set up the videotape for this show. I never did watch it though; I wonder if we still have it and if we are shown when the camera was on the audience.

   My brother did not want to take the day off from school so the fourth time just mom and I went. We found out while waiting on the line that Phil Collins was going to be a guest. I hadn’t read the TV Guide or watched the show the day before to find out who would be there

 A couple of girls had driven all the way from Ohio just to see him and they didn’t even have tickets. They were asking people if they had any extras; we gave them our 2 which they were extremely grateful about.

   Mom had no idea who Phil Collins was. He didn’t even perform a song; all he did was a bit of the drum part from “In The Air Tonight”. Mom did take pictures of him and the other guests. I think that one of them was a sports commentator – Curt Gowdy?  Two celebrity impersonators were there – Elvis and Marilyn Monroe.

   Mom was in the hospital so she couldn’t go the next time with Mike and I. Petula Clark was the guest. The audience had to sing part of her hit,” Downtown”. There would have been a 6^th time too but Mom was in the hospital yet again and Mike didn’t want to take the day off from school. I was too afraid to go into the city alone. I wish that I hadn’t been; mom’s favourite girl singer, Rosemary Clooney, was the guest. It’s a shame that she had to miss out on her.

   One day when Mike and I were talking about our experiences regarding this show he mentioned that the actor who played Freddie Kruger in the Nightmare on Elm Street movies was taping a segment either before or afterwards which I hadn’t remembered until we were talking about this.  We always did have such a good time and kind of wish that we had gotten tickets to see it more.

October 6, 2014- NYC

After putting on my jewelry, a 1928 set, one morning, I was transported to a fashion jewelry store in NYC on the holodeck. It was located near the Plaza on 48^th St. I looked at the clock on the wall and saw that it was only 8:30 a.m. I was surprised that this store was open so early.

    I looked at some of the gold necklaces. I’ve been preferring this over silver lately.  I saw a nice one that had 5 stars on it. I have been searching for a necklace like this in reality. I hoped that I would get to keep it after this program.

   I also saw a brass type heart necklace. I was looking for earrings to pair up with this and the star one but couldn’t really find any that I liked. Both necklaces were on sale so the total was only around $18.00.

   When I went outside, I saw the” Today Show’s “10:00 hour hosts, Hoda and Kathie Lee. They were talking to 2 girls who looked to be in their late 20s. Hoda was telling them that George Clooney was going to be the guest on their show this morning.

   The girls were so excited about that and said that they would be standing outside of the studio window to see him. I was debating on whether or not to do so myself. I’m not a big fan of his but it would be cool to see him in person.

   My friend Sharon likes him a lot. I wished that the real Sharon or even a holographic version of her could be here with me for this star gazing experience.

   Just as I was about to walk over to the studio, however, the scenery around me was beginning to fade. Looks like I would not have the chance to see Clooney after all. Would I be in another setting next or was I being transported back home?

   I was sitting on my bed again as I had been before this brief trip into the city. I guess that Sam had to get me out of the program because he was close to being caught having a human on the holodeck which is still not acceptable in his society.

  He has told me that it wasn’t always this way there. He also said that he hopes that one day his race would not be so anti-human. He’s never told me what caused the change in policy/public opinion and I’ve been afraid to ask.

   I wasn’t able to keep the jewelry that I had bought in the holodeck; sometimes I am actually able to bring home items from there, like photos that I have taken and souvenirs.

April 27, 2016- The Band Perry and More-Part 2

   If my memory is correct, I could hear nearly all of the Duran Duran interview last September. That group was on my mind too much during the 6 hours that I was in the city. I was wishing that I hadn’t deleted their performance on this show. I didn’t even think to set the DVR up today for The Band Perry.

   I did take a lot of pictures this morning. I don’t think as many as I did for Duran Duran though. I looked through them this afternoon and a lot of them are crappy, esp. from during the sound check. I did get a few good shots of the 3 of them together. I was hoping to upload them today but my brother didn’t go to his therapy group so I couldn’t. This is going to have to wait until Monday afternoon.

   I had promised Janet to email her a shot that I took of George Hamilton. We had been sticking around the studio for a little while hoping to see the band coming out of it. They left for a bit to put something in their car which is when that actor was going inside the studio. I thought that it was him but wasn’t entirely sure until I overheard 2 guys talking about him.

   I am mentally and physically exhausted from this adventure. I hadn’t even intended on talking much to anyone there but wound up doing so with Janet eventually.

   I was about in an 8^th row during the concert. There was just a little space between the stage and the crowd. There was a little stage in front of the main one so the group was closer to us then. I couldn’t help trying to guesstimate if the distance will be similar when I am at the Duran Duran show in July. That would be pretty good if so. It all depends on the size of the pit area.

   Kimberly and Reid did get closer to me when they went over to a little area that was probably the VIP section after the show. They chatted with people there and some in the regular area for a bit. I took photos. One of Reid would have been nice if I hadn’t accidentally zoomed in so much. Most of the shots of her came out good, of course.

   Once again, DD was on my brain. I was wishing that one or more of the guys from that group had done something similar. I feel like I have some sort of sickness- Duranitis. I am really sounding like a truly devoted fan now. Naturally, Amy and Sharon would say that there is nothing wrong with that.

   I actually wasn’t that ashamed to admit to Janet that I had been to their mini-concert on the Plaza last October. I had told her that I had been to two others that seemed to have more people at them than this one. It might have been around the same amount for Lady A.

   I ate my granola bar in the store; I was starving and couldn’t wait until afterwards to do so. I hadn’t eaten since about 3:30 a.m., nearly 7 hours earlier. I had my sandwich in the food court area downstairs afterwards.

   I made it back to Penn Station just in time for the 12:01 train. I had forgotten to buy the ticket so I had to quickly do that. Traffic on the way home was bad. It used to be okay between like the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. but it’s not that way anymore, unfortunately. I really hate driving.

   I wish that I could afford to go to a real The Band Perry concert this year. I think that they are at the Westbury Theater in Long Island. No more concerts can be in my budget for a while because of all of the DD ones that I have been to these past 8 months.

   I heard DD’s Paper Gods CD this afternoon because my brother had it on when I was in the living room. He listens to it much more than I do!
