The Power Outage Experience

On Saturday October 29 at about 1:30 pm, our power went out because the tree on our neighbour's yard that should have been cut down ages ago started losing limbs and branches that knocked the power lines down. Part of the lines landed on my car but luckily no damage from the tree. I would have been really pissed off if there had been. We had the tree in our yard cut down a few weeks ago. I'm sure that branches and limbs would've fallen from that too.

It was awful being without power and heat for 3 and a half days. We were so cold. I moved the food from the fridge to the freezer section which helped keep it from spoiling. We did have to throw the chicken and turkey burgers away though. I saved our 18 containers of yogurt and other stuff. I don't think alot of this stuff would've lasted for much longer though. During the last power outage at the end of August we lost 80.00 worth of groceries. Maybe some of the items could've been saved if I had thought of the freezer idea then.

We still have not gotten our cable service back. They came out on Wednesday but apparently there must be something with our digital converter boxes because it seems like the neighbours have their service restored. The earliest that they can send someone to our house is on Sunday morning. It's awful missing out on my shows. My brother just says it's no big deal because tv isn't important to him but I bet that if he had to go without his computer for this extra time he would be angry.

I hope that everyone has been well these days. I know that it has been a while since I've been here but I have been thinking about you all and am looking forward to reconnecting with my blog friends soon. I am currently saving for my own computer so I will be able to spend more time at this and other sites. My brother still hates me using his so I get very limited time on it and lately even when I've had the chance I've had a bunch of other things to do. Have a great weekend!

Hey LaraAnn, I'm so glad to hear that you and your family are safe after the freak snowstorm and that you got your power back! We just got ours back this morning...6 days! It was torture. Luckily we have a fireplace and a generator that we could run for a couple of hours at a time, but it was still very cold and we lost food as well. National Grid really dropped the ball on Massachusetts customers and even today, thousands of people are without power. I feel for them. Anyways, I've missed your blog posts (and have missed working on mine.) That's great news that you're saving to buy your own computer.

I'm so happy to hear that both you and Pam have your power back. The longest we've ever had our power out was for 2 and a half days (a few years ago) and that was tough...I can't imagine what you gals went through. Those pics you posted are stunning Lara, great captures. Thank goodness your car didn't sustain serious damages. So sorry to hear that some of your food was spoiled. Really sucks. Here's to better weather down the road! Glad to see you back here. :)

Hi, Pam- Thanks so much. That was a pretty strange storm. You seemed to have had it worse off then we did which I'm sorry to hear about. I don't think that I could've taken another couple days of life without power. It's good to finally be back here. I've missed everyone alot. I definitely have much catching up to do and will be looking forward to reading your posts.

Part of me is tempted to go into credit card debt to just get a new computer now but the thought of having to pay interest kills me. I had to pay plenty of that on the car loan as is. Any recommendations for a good laptop computer?

I hope that you have been doing well these days and that your week has been a good one so far.

Chelly - It was like almost exactly 2 months since the last outage. This one was just a little bit longer, I think. God must've been watching over me and protecting my car. It would've been a nightmare if there had been damage. I really hope that we don't have a bad winter, my most unfavourite season.

Glad that you liked the photos. 2 were taken looking out my bedroom window and 2 from the front porch. I was going to take more from different angles but wasn't in the mood to go out into the cold, although a couple of days it felt warmer outside then it did inside which is weird.

I'm happy to be back here and in touch with my friends again. Hope that you are having a lovely day!
