I had this in cassette form eventually too sold some of my tapes at flea markets. I need to get a record player. It is a bit confusing trying to figure out which is a good one for a reasonable price. 

I probably should say more about this album but my writing skills are on the decline lately so the pictures will have to do. 

The Beatles- Love Songs Album

 I used to have a bunch of Beatles albums but unfortunately only kept 3 of them. Here is one-

   I was at the official DD fan site today and noticed that they put the date of the MSG show onto their tour list. Next to this was “On sale soon” or something like that. I should just be very excited about this but I am mostly anxious.

   I am praying that I can get a good seat for this show. I am a little confused about my fan club privileges. Are only the gold levelers eligible for the VIP tickets? I am just a regular one. Would I even be willing to spend lots of money on a ticket if so? - Maybe.

   Would I have even gotten that ticket for the Terminal 5 concert on the secondary sale site for more than the actual price if I had been at the entire Port Chester show? Perhaps not, but maybe yes. I’m trying to convince myself that all will be okay regarding this but my pessimistic side is in control. It will be a miracle if I ever get really close to them again.

   I was discussing that missed encore incident with Amy. I said that my idiot brain had convinced me that there couldn’t have been the sound of cheering which indicated DD’s return to the stage. Had I gone with my smart side, I would have checked to be absolutely certain of this. I then would have been able to see them albeit from a distance.

   She told me that once my brain had been on track to leave the theater that there was no turning back. She also had said that it is okay to be disappointed about missing out on this but not to beat myself up about it.

   I was only on Facebook for a few minutes this morning, mainly to check on the DD stuff. There was a post about a boxed set for their album Liberty.

   This is one of the 3 or 4 albums of theirs that I don’t have. I might eventually get this one, if it is even still available. I might have had the cassette but it was amongst the items that I sold at flea markets.

   I do still have a 45 of one of the songs off of it; not even sure which song it is. The picture/poster sleeve on it is pretty cool though. Or maybe I am wrong about this; it could be one of a song from Big Thing or even Notorious. It might be the latter.

    My memory is getting shittier every day, even for a subject that is of great interest to me. It is a bit embarrassing that I seem to ramble on and on about this specific group.

   That 45 was “Meet El Presidente” which if from Notorious. I only have 6 or7 DD 45s which are in the small container with my 2 John Taylor books and his audio book. I still haven’t listened to all of that yet.

    I don’t want to put those books in my bookcase. There isn’t really any room for them there plus I feel the need to keep them in a protected environment. That sounds a bit twisted, doesn’t it?

   I had the “Rio” and “Hungry like the Wolf” 45s but they got ruined by the heat when I was doing the flea markets. I shouldn’t have even sold or gotten rid of any DD items. And it was foolish to throw away the DD scrapbook that I got a flea market in the mid-1990s. I did that by the end of that decade.

   I did purge some stuff from my DD scrapbook a few years ago too. I must have been very depressed both times, especially more recently.

 

 

Music Memories 3

Grade School Music Memories

- We listened to Susan’s Michael Jackson’s Off the Wall album during lunchtime one day in the 5^th grade.

-Secret Santa gifts that I received- K-Tel’s Wings of Sound in 6^th and John Cougar’s American Fool in 8^th.

-Our second grade teacher Miss M would sometimes bring in her guitar and play for us and we’d also occasionally sing songs like” Friends Are Like Flowers”.

-Our class sang John Lennon’s” Imagine” during a school assembly/show.

-For an art project in 6^th or 7^th grade we had to pick out an album cover to draw. I chose Grease which at the time I liked but no longer did a few years later.

-A Blondie record, the one with” The Tide is High” on it, was playing at Nancy’s birthday/slumber party.

-The church group did the play Bye, Bye Birdie in the early 1980s. Mom saw this on Broadway when Paul Lynde and Gene Rayburn were in the cast. She has that Playbill.

-We went on 2 trips to the Garden State Arts Center. Both were religious type events- a music group and a play (musical?). Mom got the record of the former.

- 4^th grade plays- My class did Shenandoah; originally it was going to be Oklahoma. Mike’s class did The Sound of Music.

Music Memories- Part 2

-I still have the 95 top songs of 1983 list from WPLJ. “Hungry Like the Wolf” and” Is There Something I Should Know?” are on it as is “Every Breath You Take” by the Police which is number 1.

-We remember some of tapes that we got from a club in the early 80s.  They were 10 for a penny or a dollar then buy a certain number at regular price. Styx – Kilroy was Here, Toto IV, Asia, Go-Gos – Vacation, David Bowie – Let’s Dance, Kool and the Gang, Def Leppard – Pyromania, Hall and Oates – Voices or H2O, maybe both.

   Mike said that my Duran Duran Rio tape was also from that club but I don’t remember this. I thought that I bought it at a flea market in 1993. It’s strange that my brother would recall this and not me. I must not have listened to it that much in the 80s. Night versions of “Hungry Like the Wolf” and “Hold Back the Rain” are on this.

-High School- Jim D was showing some of us his Wham! - Make It Big album before class started one day.

-I still have the Invisible Tour Genesis poster that I got from the picture guys shop at US 1 Flea Market. I had wished that I could go to one of their shows back then

-We listened to a Rick Astley tape for a little while at Cindy’s graduation party in 1988. I think that she said that it was her mom’s. Cindy was into Depeche Mode (and other New wave music that I don’t exactly remember). I didn’t start liking them until the early 1990s.

-In 1989, my roommate and I were singing” Ebony and Ivory” while walking by the river in Pittsburgh. A guy was looking at us as if we were crazy.

-Billy Joel- I listened to his Greatest Hits Vol. 1&2 on my Walkman during the drive to Smithville Village. I think that we stopped there on the way home from a trip to the shore. We listened to some of his 8 tracks at our friends the Prescotts’ house a couple of times.

-We listened to Mark’s Styx Kilroy Was Here tape during the drive home from the shore (AC?) Dad didn’t really care for that.

-I listened to Mellencamp’s Scarecrow on my Walkman during the drive to Saratoga Springs, N.Y. for cousin Kevin’s wedding in 1988.

-Kathy, Mike and I listened to Prince and Hall and Oates records at her house once. Her taste in music change a lot when she started dating her future husband Jeff in the late 1980s. She then liked Aerosmith, Motley Crue and other stuff that he and their college friends were into.

-Dad had an album of wrestling stars performing songs like” Don’t Go Messin’ with a Country Boy” by Hillbilly Jim.

-The first CD that I ever bought was The Unforgettable Nat King Cole in 1994.

My K-tel Albums

I had the K-tel album Wings of Sound which I got as a gift in 1980. I played it on my record player alot. I remember some of the songs on it - Rock With You - Michael Jackson, This Is It - Kenny Loggins, Escape (The Pina Colada Song) and Gold. I should've kept it despite the fact that it started skipping eventually. I got these 3 albums and the 2 tapes in the late 80's and early 90's at flea markets and a record exchange store. I actually had the Soundwaves one on an 8 Track that my friend got me for Christmas in 1980 or 1981. I like these and a few other songs on it - Upside Down - Diana Ross, Steal Away - Robbie Dupree and Let Me Love You Tonight - Pure Prarie League.

I went to the Wikipedia site to find out some info on this company. Their first album was 25 Great Country Artists Sing Their Original Hits in 1966. They were started in Winnepeg, Manitoba and then in the U.S. in Plymouth, MN and also in the UK and Germany. In 1984 the US division filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. They had compilation series such as Super Hits, The Number One Hits and Dynamic Hits. I can't help laughing at the titles of some of their albums. One called Power Hits had a Carpenters song Yesterday Once More on it. I used to like that song. Summer Crusin' had 1950s music.

My favourite songs on Hit Express are Do You Believe in Love - Huey Lewis and the News and Don't You Want Me - Human League ; from Blast Off - Hurts So Good - John Cougar. I used to like more of the songs on each of these albums and tapes but I guess I kind of lost interest in them after a while. I'd love to see which other albums that this company had. A disco one called Night Moves from 1979 was mentioned. Maybe I can look into that somewhere on the internet.
