February 3, 2012- DD Video/Cartoon Characters

I got to be in a Duran Duran video in the holodeck. I must have won a contest. It was sort of a strange video for a song that doesn’t even exist in my reality. Weirder yet was that it was being filmed in a few places in Cranford.

   The DD guys and the crew were staying at the same hotel – The Coachman Inn. This hasn’t been there for many years. Another hotel is but I’m not even sure of its name. It was cool seeing this place again. I got to hang out with the group there for a little while, also part of the prize.

    When I was a kid, I was always so excited and relieved to see the big sign for that hotel as we were driving home on the Parkway from either the shore or the mall. I did have fun at those places but the thought of being home again was comforting, esp. when my Ginger pup was around.

    They made me look glamorous for the video, doing my hair and makeup and giving me a beautiful and expensive outfit to wear. I was looking semi-pretty to begin with, which I have no idea how the aliens create such an illusion but I wish that they’d let me stay that way in the real world.

   I was chatting with Nick about fashion and makeup for about 15 minutes. I wasn’t even feeling nervous. I didn’t really say much to the others, just the basic hello and other small talk.

     Everyone in the video was moving in slow motion during part of it, only this was actually really happening and not added as a special effect later. No one thought that this was odd.

   When I left the hotel, my father was in the parking lot. Why did he have to be a part of this? I hope that he was a good Dad in this reality. Were my parents still married here? It was present day but everyone looked 10-15 years younger.

   Dad was standing near our 1984 tan Buick Century. He told me that he had been at Woodbridge Mall but that when he was driving home on the Parkway as he reached our exit-136-that suddenly our town was no longer there. A forest was now in its place.

   I said “How is this possible?”  Our town is very close to this hotel; when I looked over in that direction I saw that he was right. I told him that maybe it still is there but that it is now beyond the forest

    Dad seemed pretty upset about this.  I told him that maybe we should just go somewhere for coffee before checking this out. I also said that maybe afterwards things would be back to normal in our town.

   He took us someplace in Kenilworth. We went on the Parkway to get there. During that drive, I saw a very strange but also funny site – there were cartoon characters in their vehicles on this road also. There was Scooby and the gang in the Mystery Machine van, which is my all-time favorite cartoon. Others included Batman and Robin, The Flinstones, Hong Kong Phooey and The Blue Falcon and Dynomutt.

   It ended after we had our coffee so I don’t know if our town was where it should be again; hopefully it was. I’ve lived there all of my life and probably will until the day that I die.

"Scooby Doo" and many other of the Hanna Barbera ones – “Snagglepuss”,” Huckleberry Hound”, “Yogi Bear”, “Hong Kong Phooey”, “Dastardly and Muttley”, “Ricochet Rabbit”, "Quick Draw McGraw", “Jonny Quest”, “Space Ghost”, and “The Blue Falcon and Dynomutt”.

   “Dungeons and Dragons”, “Battle of the Planets”, “Courageous Cat and Minute Mouse”, “Danger Mouse”, “Inspector Gadget”, “Spiderman and Friends”, “Super Friends and the Hall of Justice”, “Iron Man”, “Godzilla “(with Godzuki), “Rocky and Bullwinkle”, and "The Pink Panther".

   I’m not sure if I would include the “Smurfs”. Well, back then we liked them but I don’t know if I’d want to sit through any of these episodes today like I would with most of these others.

Our Christmas Decorations 2- Snoopy and Scooby

I got the Scooby ornaments at the Warner Brothers store at our Woodbridge Mall and in CVS in the mid or late 90's. I also have been collecting the Scooby, Snoopy and the Muppets Hallmark ornaments. I didn't think to take photos of those when I was going through my decorations to better organize them. I haven't really decorated for Christmas since the late 90's. We have so many decorations. My favourite are the ones from my childhood, esp. handmade items.

Snoopy T-Shirts

My mom and I saw a cool Peanuts T-shirt in Kohl's the other day but it was in the men's section. It was a Halloween one. I'm thinking of going back there and getting one in a small for her. It would be too big for me. These are the 3 Snoopy shirts that I do have. I only wear them with a pair of sweatshorts or sweatpants to sleep in though. I did see another cool one in the JC Penney's flyer a couple of months ago. Snoopy was doing his dance of joy surrounded by some cupcakes. Yummy, I'd be happy too. I was tempted to go there and get it even though it was in the girl's department but did not. I do have a Scooby one in XL from that department. I used the money towards a book for mom instead. I just love character shirts.

My 2 Scooby T-Shirts

I love Scooby Doo! I got these 2 t-shirts at the Warner Brothers store in Woodbridge Mall. It was disappointing when that store closed down there. The top one was actually in the kids department and is and extra large. I could have gotten the large and it would have been an even better fit. I have a few other Scooby shirts too. I don't care if that Stacey on What Not to Wear says that it is too childish to be wearing such shirts. I think it's cool to wear these. I would be too embarrassed to wear ones with my favourite music stars and TV shows on them though.

My brother was talking about Battlestar Galactica yesterday, not the new one but the cheesy one from the 70s. I did used to watch this and Buck Rogers with him back then. He likes the former more. We liked watching Star Trek together too- he was more into it than I was. I remember when it was on at 6:00 on Saturdays and we would watch this after Mission Impossible at 5:00.

We would watch some of the old shows with our parents. The Beverly Hillbillies, The Andy Griffith Show, Leave It to Beaver, The Munsters and The Honeymooners. Sometimes we'd watch the Addams Family but I always liked The Munsters more. Now I'm not really into any of these classic shows.

Why did we ever watch Gilligan's Island- Gilligan is so annoying. We liked The Brady Bunch then, don't know if I'd want to watch it now though. Definitely wouldn't watch Three's Company or The Facts of Life. I guess at the time we were into that sort of show. We did watch Little House on the Prarie but I liked the books much better.

Mom used to tell people a story about me that really embarrased me. She said that when I was a little girl that sometimes I used to dance around during the opening of I Dream of Jeannie trying to imitate how the cartoon image of her did so. We watched Bewitched also but I always liked the former better. I really did not care for Darren #2 and Tabitha.

Dad, Mark and I used to watch wrestling in the 80s. I remember many of the wrestlers- The Iron Sheik, Sgt. Slaughter, Jessie "The Body" Ventura, Jake "The Snake" Roberts, Hillbilly Jim, George "The Animal" Steel, Rowdy Roddy Piper, Andre The Giant and more. Captain Lou the manager just died last year. I can't believe that I used to be into this. Dad even had a record with the stars of wrestling singing. I remember Hillbilly Jim doing Don't Go Messin' With a Country Boy.

We liked Happy Days but mostly just the first couple of years before it became mainly The Fonzie show. A relative got me a necklace with him on the charm. My grade school classmate said that she liked it. I still have the charm but not the chain.

I love Hanna Barbera cartoons, especially Scooby Doo. Other favourites- Snagglepuss, Huckleberry Hound, Yogi Bear and Boo-Boo, Hong Kong Phooey, Ricochet Rabbit, Auggie Doggie and Dastardly and Muttley. We watched The Jetsons and The Flinstones but didn't care for them as much. Same with Tom and Jerry. Jonny Quest was good too. We weren't as into Bugs and the Warner Brothers cartoons. Loved The Pink Panther, Spiderman and Friends, The Incredible Hulk, Godzilla (with Godzuki), The Superfriends and the Hall of Justice and The Fantastic Four as well

In the 80's we did watch The Smurfs. I'm kind of embarrased to admit that. Sometimes I wished that Gargamel would capture them though which is pretty mean. I liked the Dungeons and Dragons cartoon. We watched Inspector Gadget and He-Man also. I think there were a couple of others but I can't remember them right now.

Were The Blue Falcon and Space Ghost Hanna Barbera? Probably. We did watch Rocky and Bullwinkle sometimes but I don't remember much about that. I did have a sweatshirt with them on it when I was a little girl. Nowadays I do have T-Shirts with Scooby Doo and the Pink Panther on them. I don't care that Stacey and Clinton on What Not to Wear say that this is childish and you shouldn't be wearing such shirts.

I think that I forgot to mention The Family Feud on my list of favourite game shows yesterday. A friend of ours had that board game and we'd play it sometimes. Now I'm thinking about the toys and games that I had in my childhood. I still have some of them but not many. That's a topic for another day, however. I've said enough for today.
