Roy Rogers- 1974

Roy Rogers was one of our favorite places to go out to eat when we were kids. This one was located in Cranford. It eventually became Pizza Hutt and currently the eye doctor's office that my family and I go to is there. In the 1980s, we also sometimes went to the one in Clark which is now a Wendy's. I recently read that there are 5 left in NJ, 3 of them are at rest stops.

Other Cakes 1970-1989

We don't have a photo of the cake from my Christening which is surprising.  The one of my brother's high school graduation is hard to see; I don't know why we didn't take a photo at better angle. There might be other cakes throughout our albums. I will certainly do another post if I find them.

My Brother's Birthday Cakes 1972- 1991

I couldn't find a really good photo of the cake from my brother's first birthday. I included 2 from 1982 because part of it got cut off. We have more photos of his cakes than mine.

When I first started my blog, my posts had all of the real names of family members and friends for the most part but over the past couple of years, I have been using entries from my journal story which have had name changes. This post has the former.

Some of My Birthday Cakes-1970-1990

I have a couple more photos but there isn't that good of a view of the cakes in them so I left them out of this post. I probably should have just posted them in a different way so you can see them better without having to click onto each segment- maybe I will redo it like that another time. This is the photo document that I did of them to print out and put in my Childhood Memories Journal.

More Food Memories- Part 3

-Mom Favorites – Chocolate covered cherries, Andes Mints, licorice, Charleston Chews, Baby Ruth, Circus Peanuts, Malted Milk Balls, Chunky Bars, Bit O’ Honey, Mary Janes, pistachios, French’s potato sticks, Pepperidge Farms Goldfish; onion rings (esp. from Lum’s Diner), eggplant parmesan, tomato with mayo and BLT (bacon, lettuce, and tomato) sandwiches, and cucumbers with vinegar. I liked some of these things too!

-Dad Favorites – Archway oatmeal cookies, fresh roasted peanuts (from US 1 Flea Market), sardine sandwiches and split pea soup made by his mother (yuck!); and Manhattan clam chowder which I made for him a few times.

-Unpleasant memory –Dad forced me to eat spinach once and I threw up afterwards

More Food Memories- Part 2

-Mike and I had a drink called a Shirley Temple at Newark airport after either picking up or dropping off Grandma next store there in the late 70s. I thought that it was made with ginger ale and cranberry juice. This really has grenadine and maraschino cherry not the latter in it.

-Wildwood – We went to a good diner and also an ice cream place there but I don’t remember their names. The fudge from the candy shop on the boardwalk was yummy.

-The pierogis from Kathy’s church were very good.

-Lobster –Mom made this only once. Karen T gave her instructions on how to do so. It was very messy but pretty good. I preferred having it as just the tail with filet mignon at the Sleepy Hollow Inn.

-Aunt Ann and Uncle Joe- My aunt made deviled eggs and celery with peanut butter as appetizers for parties. She baked Magic Cookie Bars (we have her recipe) that are delicious as were my uncle’s cinnamon pinwheels. They often had a bowl of in-shell walnuts on their coffee table.
